We would advise against sanding or scraping any textured coating applied before 2000 until it has been tested, because it can contain asbestos. A sample test is inexpensive and definitive. If the coating is cleared, removal is straightforward; if not, it needs handling in line with the regulations, not a DIY weekend.
How can I tell if my plaster is blown?
Tap it with your knuckles. Sound plaster feels solid and sounds dead; blown plaster sounds hollow and drummy because it has parted from the wall behind. Blown areas need cutting out and patching - skimming over them just moves the failure to a later date.
How long does a repair take to dry before decorating?
Around a week for a typical patch in a heated room, longer for deep repairs or walls replastered after damp treatment. Gentle background heat and ventilation help; blasting it with a heater does not, as drying too fast causes cracking. We give you honest timings when we finish.
Parking is permit-only on our street - is that an issue?
